Position Summary
As the Southwest Organizer, you serve as the primary connector and UWD representative for grassroots members and affiliate organizations rooted in the Southwest region, including Poder of Idaho (ID), New Mexico Dream Team (NM), Arizona Dream Act Coalition (ADAC) and ACE (AZ), Texas affiliates, along with existing and emerging member-led formations that identify United We Dream (UWD) as their political home in Arizona, Nevada, and California and other states as chapters are assigned. You will be responsible for conducting monthly site visits, attending in person meetings and spending a significant amount of time on the ground to get acquainted with our members and different organizing terrains.
With support from the Deputy Organizing Director, you will play a key role in exponentially growing by identifying, launching, and developing new school-based chapters and significantly scaling membership in priority regions across California (CA), Nevada (NV), and Arizona (AZ). You will be responsible for cultivating youth leadership, strengthening local chapter infrastructure, providing logistical needs and supporting affiliate organizations in their organizing efforts. In this role, you are responsible for nurturing deep, trust-based relationships with leaders, organizers, and members from these groups. You will act as both a strategic partner and day-to-day support system, ensuring their local and statewide work aligns with and is reinforced by UWD’s organizing strategy, values, and campaigns.You will be responsible for participating and leading recruitment and mobilizing of your members to national in person/ digital trainings and organizing spaces.
This role requires a dynamic organizer who is skilled in base-building, ready to meet members where they're at. Be well versed in leadership development, coaching and logistical coordination across diverse communities and geographic areas and who will spend significant time in the community building relationships. You will be responsible for developing strong relationships with students, educators, community members, and allied organizations to build sustainable power in schools and communities. This role sits in the Membership and Campaigns Department.

Responsibilities
Community Organizing & Leadership Development
- Organize, support and exponentially grow the number of youth groups (campus based organizing and school chapters) across the Southwest by building deep, long-term relationships with students and youth leaders, and launching school-based chapters using UWD’s grassroots organizing model.
- Proactively builds relationships with local organizations in your region that work/ organize with youth to become affiliates
- Build deep relationships with youth members/leaders by conducting a minimum of 10 weekly 1:1s; focused on mentorship, political development, and identifying emerging leaders across school chapters.
- Uphold a data-driven learning culture by tracking individual key organizing metrics (e.g., 1:1s, chapter activities, training participation, leadership development milestones) on a weekly basis across the region.
- Design and lead engaging leadership spaces including monthly community gatherings and chapter meetings that include training
- Create materials, agendas, and guides that are dynamic, accessible, and responsive to the needs of youth, ensuring members are prepared to take action and lead.
- Establish and maintain Core Leaders Committee in your region, providing coaching, resources, and structure to ensure they are leading strong, consistent chapter activity and representing their communities in campaigns.
School Chapter Development
- Lead UWD’s school chapter strategy in the Southwest, building and sustaining strong, youth-led chapters and ensuring alignment with national goals and values.
- Support chapter board development across regions, offering coaching, resources, and guidance to strengthen youth leadership and internal infrastructure.
- Supports bi-annual national audits to ensure chapter compliance, accurate contact and activity records, and alignment with organizing standards.
Membership Support & Campaign Coordination
- Provide training, resources, and ongoing support to chapters enabling them to lead campaign activities such as mobilizations, petition drives, story collection, and legislative engagement.
- Facilitate member-led participation in local and national campaigns, rapid response actions, and both digital and in-person mobilizations to build collective power.
- Collaborate with various teams to create coordinated strategies that empower members to engage effectively in lobbying, public forums, legislative meetings, and other advocacy efforts.
- Support chapters in building sustainable leadership and infrastructure to maintain long-term campaign involvement and grassroots power.
Logistical & Operational Support
- Plan and manage logistics for chapter meetings, food, and accessibility.
- Develop safety and risk management plans for your region’s meetings and events, ensuring accessibility and inclusion
- Coordinate the distribution of materials, supplies, and digital tools to members and chapters as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Must demonstrate exceptional adaptability, as responsibilities within this role are subject to evolution and program objectives may shift. This requires a proactive approach to learning new skills and embracing unforeseen challenges to ensure continuous contribution and success.
- This role requires extensive traveling up to or more than 60% per month (this is inclusive of local engagements, travel within the region served, and for organization-wide in-person events).
- This role requires the coordination of many in-person events, for which you will be expected to perform the logistical planning and execution, which may involve lifting up to 30lbs, and transporting materials and escorting/transporting members.
Organizing Expertise
- Minimum 6 years of experience in developing and executing people-powered organizing strategies, with a strong record of successfully building and retaining member committees.
- Proven ability to engage community members and grow individual and institutional membership through strategic use of organizing tools and tactics.
- Skilled trainer with experience in curriculum design, facilitation, and training material development.
- Strong political analysis and demonstrated commitment to building power with youth communities to drive social and policy change.
Project Management
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects involving cross-functional collaboration, including stakeholders who may not report directly to you.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritize effectively, and navigate nuanced situations.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving environments; responds quickly and strategically to emerging issues and opportunities.
- Skilled at managing teams with mixed staff and volunteer participation, establishing shared expectations and accountability.
Leadership and Interpersonal Skills

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $53,040.00 - $73,440.00

- Employees who have completed more than 1 year of service but less than 3 with United We Dream:
- 12 Vacation days per year
- Employees who have completed more than 3 years of service but less than 5 with United We Dream:

- Employees who have completed more than 5 years of service with United We Dream:
- 22 Vacation days per year
- Paid two weeks Off Holiday between December and January.

Location
As UWD is a remote-first workplace, this is a full-time, remote position. This role is required to have a home base in the following states: CA, NV, AZ.
